Effective date: 8 April 2026
App: Mesopotamian Academic Press
Publisher: Mesopotamian Academic Press
This policy explains what information the Mesopotamian Academic Press iOS app collects, how it is used, and your choices. We have kept it short and plain because the app itself is simple: it is a reader for open-access academic journals published by Mesopotamian Academic Press, with an optional AI assistant.
What we do NOT collect
- We do not require you to create an account.
- We do not ask for your name, email, phone number, or location.
- We do not use advertising trackers or third-party analytics SDKs in the app.
- We do not sell or share any user data.
- We do not access your photos, contacts, microphone, or camera.
What stays on your device
- Bookmarks / saved articles — stored locally in the app’s own storage. They never leave your phone. Uninstalling the app deletes them.
- Theme preference (light / dark / system) — stored locally.
What the app sends over the network
The app makes a small number of requests to our own servers so it can show you journal content:
- Journal feed — the app fetches the public list of articles from mesopotamian.press using the standard OAI-PMH protocol. This is the same public data anyone can read on the website.
- Scopus metrics — the app fetches a small cached JSON snapshot so it can display CiteScore values on journal cards. This file contains only journal-level metadata, no user information.
- AI assistant (optional) — if you choose to use the in-app assistant, the message you type is sent to our backend, which relays it to Anthropic’s Claude API to generate a reply. The reply is shown to you and is not stored by us.
When the app talks to our backend, our server temporarily records your IP address for the purpose of rate-limiting abuse (a 10-minute rolling window). We do not link IP addresses to any identity, we do not retain them long-term, and we do not use them for any other purpose.
Your assistant messages are processed by Anthropic under their API terms. Anthropic’s privacy practices are available at anthropic.com/privacy.
Children’s privacy
The app is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children under 13.
Data security
All network requests use HTTPS. The app does not store passwords, tokens, or payment information — it has no such concept.
Your choices
- You can stop using the assistant at any time; the rest of the app works without it.
- You can delete your bookmarks from within the app.
- You can uninstall the app to remove all local data.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will post the new version at the same URL and update the “Effective date” above. Significant changes will also be announced in the app’s release notes.
