Abstract

This Surah is Meccan, like other Meccan Surahs, and it discusses matters related to belief. Here are some signs of the resurrection and the accompanying transformation in the universe, significant events, and descriptions of the conditions of the righteous and the wicked on the Day of Resurrection, similar to the preceding Surahs. It begins by describing cosmic events that will occur on the Day of Judgment, such as the splitting of the sky, the scattering of the planets, the bursting of the seas, and the disorder of the graves. Then it informs about the knowledge that every soul will have of what it has sent forth and delayed: "When the sky has split open..." (referring to a specific verse in the Surah).
